Drei Songs komplett unplugged — „I Want You Back“, „Linger“ von den Cranberries und „All ways“.
There are these bands you’ve known forever and always wanted to see live. Lake Street Dive was just one of those for me. So I was pretty happy when it finally happened.
John Splithoff opened — and what an opening. He played mostly rather boring love songs, but somehow managed to get the crowd dancing and singing along on both sides of the room. He had his electric guitar, jammed with his keyboardist, and even introduced his drummer — who was also tour manager by the way. Mega well done.
After a frustratingly long 35-minute changeover, Lake Street Dive took the stage. The first two songs felt a bit flat — you could tell the band spread out pretty wide across the stage with Rachael positioned firmly in the middle. Felt a bit odd. But then came „Dance with a Stranger“ and that one really landed.
Then something pretty great happened: they put a room mic in the center of the stage and the whole band gathered around it. Three songs completely unplugged — „I Want You Back“, „Linger“ by the Cranberries, and „All ways“. With „All ways“ I got goosebumps: the lyrics were hilarious, but by the end the audience was singing so loud it almost drowned out the band. That intimate vibe was just perfect.
The band introduced their songs, told us how they came about and who wrote them. Every word from Rachael was crystal clear. Keyboardist Akie gave the newer tracks especially a really beautiful sound. „Good Together“ and „Hypothetical“ cranked things up again — both absolute bangers.
Lake Street Dive pulled off something remarkable: they created a living-room-concert atmosphere in a massive hall. You felt like you were actually standing up there on stage with them. That mix of goosebumps, dancing, that rush of hot and cold at the same time — that was the best show of the year for me. Killer set.
