Jazzrausch Big Band – Prague Calling
1 | Jazzrausch Big Band – Prague Calling
The greatest band from Munich whom we’ve seen live like a thousand times made it to rank #1 this year. Their first studio album is a great mix of dance/techno and jazz. It has a smooth sound and I loved to have it in my car. Do not miss out on their second album (JRBB Bruckners Breakdown)

2 | Kermit Ruffins – 1533 St. Philip Street
2 | Kermit Ruffins – 1533 St. Philip Street
In New Orleans this guy owns his own bar and is one of the most famous trumpet players in that city. It’s typical New Orleans sound, a bit oldschool, but great as ever.

3 | St Paul and the Broken Bones – Sea of Noise
3 | St Paul and the Broken Bones – Sea of Noise
I’ve seen this band live at the Love Supreme Festival this year. Paul Janeway is one of the craziest singers that I’ve ever seen. Even from far back in the audience you could feel his vibes and what a great dancer he is, too. The whole album is made to be performed live and nowhere else.

4 | Galactic – Crazyhorse Mongoose
4 | Galactic – Crazyhorse Mongoose
This album of Galactic was covered a few times. But I love the original funky fancy sound. A great album to have a funky relaxation.

5 | The Bamboos – The Best Of The Tru Thoughts Years
5 | The Bamboos – The Best Of The Tru Thoughts Years
This album is one of the best compositions I’ve listened to this year. The Bamboos have such a great variety of songs. Th music they play is between hip-hop, funk, soul and jazz. Together with other great artists at Tru Thoughs like Alice Russel, they made this the perfect album.

6 | Bilderbuch – Magic Life
6 | Bilderbuch – Magic Life
Why is the best German speaking band an Austrian band? Maybe Austria offers more time to think about how to make great, innovational music. The young guys of Bilderbuch offer a sound that was nearly never heard before. It has hip-hop choruses mixed with the guitar sound of the 70s. I think this is a masterpiece of German speaking music.

7 | Amy Winehouse – Back to Black
7 | Amy Winehouse – Back to Black
Again, again. I hope my kids will one day ask me, why this woman died so early. She’s just one of the greatest voices the world has ever seen.

8 | Miles Mosley – Uprising
8 | Miles Mosley – Uprising
Miles Mosley performed live at the Love Supreme Festival at three different gigs. This guy has a crazy variety in his baseplay. He can be a crazy guitar hero or a smooth jazz background play. You never know what will happen next on stage.

9 | Bonobo – Migrations
9 | Bonobo – Migrations
Whenever you get to a new Bonobo album, you think the last one was so great, it can never ever get better. And what happens? It gets better! This man is crazy. I don’t have any clue how he gets better from album to album, but he does it in great style.

10 | Electro Deluxe – Circle

The new album of Electro Deluxe is continuing the great tradition of dance albums. It has a strong and overall great sound.
